Here is the first Engine the CVFC ever had and it was built by the charter members by hand and featured a chemical tank, which combined basically baking soda with a powerful acid to produce pressure to move the water from the tank thru a hose. The reason is not such a great one, but when the Irish began to come to America in the middle 1700's due to famine they were not welcomed and in fact had a hard time finding work. Increased Risk of Fire Spread Today

Chester Residents - Please be aware there is a increased risk of fire spread. The National weather service has issued a special weather statement to this end :

"There is an increased risk for fire spread today across portions
of northern New Jersey. Minimum relative humidity values will be
between 20 to 30 percent combined with south-southwest winds near

Today, our members took part in an ice rescue drill, sharpening the critical skills and techniques needed to respond quickly and safely to ice-related emergencies

This afternoon Chester Volunteer Fire Company was requested to respond to an initial electrical fire which was quickly upgraded to a residential fire

Due to the quick response of our members, we were able to quickly extinguish and control any extension. Thank you to our mutual aid departmentd for responding. Fairmount Fire Company, Long Valley Fire Company, Chester First Aid Squad, Chester Police Department, and Atlantic Mobile Health. Additional thank you to Peapack Fire for responding to a smell of smoke from dryer, then standing by at our station.
